Exchange Program

What is the Student Exchange Program?

The student Exchange Program offered by The Australian National University (ANU) is rewarding both educationally and personally. If you have ever thought to yourself "Never been there! Never done that!" - you should consider going on exchange during your university course at the ANU. The exchange experience allows you to discover exciting parts of the world and may extend the possibilities of your chosen career. It will enrich your life both professionally and personally.

Participating in an exchange program gives you not only the opportunity to understand the culture and language of another country but also, through the eyes of others, to understand your own country better. Through the exchange program you will be able to undertake study overseas at an approved partner institution and have that study count towards your ANU degree. Gaining credit for your studies overseas allows you to complete your degree in the normal length of time required.

Who can participate?

The exchange program is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in a full-time degree course at The Australian National University. If you are an undergraduate student you must have completed at least one academic year at the ANU and achieved a credit average or better. You must also obtain permission from your College before you participate in the program. This is to ensure that you get the maximum academic credit while you are away. Ideally you should be an active member of the university community and have a genuine interest in the people and culture of the country in which you study. You will be expected to be an ambassador for both the ANU and Australia while abroad. This will be established through the selection process.

In addition to the general university exchanges, the Department of Physics has a specific exchange with the University of Bonn in Germany and SRES (Forestry) with the University of British Columbia in Canada.
