A recent review of biosciences found that the University should capitalise on existing research strengths by lowering barriers between academic units and through the provision of greater incentives for collaboration among disciplines at ANU. It was strongly recommended that ANU continue to improve internal cooperation and integration for cross disciplinary collaboration, as well as to reduce duplication of effort and achieve efficiency gains. In particular, the University should take advantage of opportunities as they arise to form larger internal units. As a result the new School of Health and Psychological Sciences is being formed from the following areas:
